RENO, Nev. (AP) — A former Nevada state education secretary will oversee public universities and colleges in the state on an interim basis. The Nevada Board of Regents voted Thursday to appoint Dale Erquiaga as chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education. He will serve in the role for 18 months while the board searches for a permanent chancellor. Erquiaga begins the job July 1 and will earn a base salary of $300,000. Some groups had urged the regents to postpone a vote on the appointment and release a full list of names that were submitted for consideration, in the name of transparency.
