On October 25, 2020 at 7:25 a.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a report of two people who had been struck by a vehicle and were laying on a sidewalk near Hollywood Boulevard and Wildcat Way. Responding officers and medical personnel located an unresponsive adult female and male who were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The LVMPD Fatal detail responded and learned that the male decedent was the passenger of a vehicle being driven by 22-year-old Rodrigo Cruz. While driving down Hollywood Boulevard, they pulled along-side a female bicyclist and the passenger leaned out of the vehicle window and pushed her to the ground. At the same time, the passenger fell out of the moving vehicle and struck a light pole. Cruz fled the scene before officers arrived and was later apprehended. The LVMPD Homicide Section took over the investigation and booked Cruz into the Clark County Detention Center for one count of Open Murder, Duty to Stop at the Scene of an Accident, and for Violating the Conditions of his Parole. A booking photo of Cruz accompanies this release. The identification of both decedents as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
