There will be no easing into the NFL for Las Vegas Raiders rookie receivers Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards. The two wideouts are slated to begin the season as starters when the Raiders visit Carolina with expectations that they can spark what has been a dormant offense in recent years. If Ruggs and Edwards get the start, they will be just the sixth rookie duo to do that in a season opener since 2000.
Raiders general manager Mike Mayock has no idea what to expect from the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Nor does the Raiders coaching staff. The Panthers have a new head coach and two new coordinators — all coming from the college level — and a new quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater. With no preseason games, the Raiders staff doesn’t have any game tape to watch, and thus no clear picture of what to game plan for on Sunday.
