UMC is now asking members of the public to not go to the drive through COVID-19 testing centers to get tested for coronavirus, if they don’t have any symptoms and have not been exposed to someone who has the virus. This is an about face for the medical center which had previously encouraged members of the public to make an appointment and get tested. UMC says because of the increased number of people getting tested, tests are running short and delays at labs are delaying people test results for days.
“Amid rising demand for COVID-19 testing, UMC asks community members … whenever possible (to) please save the available public testing appointments for community members with symptoms of COVID-19 and those who have been exposed to the virus,”UMC spokesman Scott Kerbs said in an email.
However, UMC stopped short of requiring symptoms or exposure for an individual to be tested.
