A large fire is still burning Monday on Mt. Charleston. The fire began Sunday around 2:30 p.m. as a 10-acre brush fire. Sunday’s wind quickly pushed the Mahogany Fire through Mt. Charleston, burning more than 5,000 acres. High winds on Sunday made it very difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze. Smoke could be seen across the Las Vegas valley. The fire started near Archery Range and Deer Creek Roads – Deer Creek connects Kyle Canyon and Lee Canyon Roads. As of Monday morning, the fire was 0% contained and evacuations were being ordered.
