Court documents say prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against the parents of a 4-month-old baby boy who Las Vegas doctors say was severely malnourished at the time of his death.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Clark County Coroner's Office announced Tuesday that Hannibal Oceja died due to a failure to thrive, undernourishment and insufficient fluid intake, as well as starvation and neglect.
The office ruled Hannibal Oceja's February death as a homicide.
Court documents show Anthony Oceja and Loreana Martinez have been indicted on a murder charge for their son's death as well as charges for abusing their other children as well as three charges of animal cruelty.
Martinez's lawyer Willard Ewing declined to comment. Anthony Oceja's lawyer did not immediately respond to a call from the newspaper.
