The Raiders played a home game in Mexico City on Sunday and Marshawn Lynch sat during the American national anthem, but Lynch stood during the Mexican national anthem.
The move caught the attention Donald Trump.
Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 20, 2017
Lynch has sat during the national anthem of every game this season. It was not a new move for the Raiders running back. But the contrast between two anthems has Trump upset.
The president has asked the NFL to suspend to Lynch, which will almost certainly not be happening. The Raiders have made it clear they don’t really care that Lynch sits during the anthem. Though Lynch has never made it clear why he sits during the anthem.
Despite the president claiming Lynch was booed for sitting by the crowd in Mexico, there appears to be no proof that Lynch was actually booed.
Prior to a game earlier this season, Lynch wore a shirt that read “Everybody vs. Trump”.
