ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — The name of a woman who was killed while protesting against a white nationalist demonstration has been painted on a monument to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Roanoke, Virginia.

Heyer was killed last month when a car plowed into a group of people protesting against the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. White nationalists had been rallying in support of a Lee statue in Charlottesville that officials plan to remove.
Roanoke police spokesman Scott Leamon said the department is investigating. He said that a WSLS TV crew discovered the writing shortly before 5 a.m. Leamon said police will see if any surveillance cameras captured footage of the vandalism.
