MICHAEL GOWDEY
"STRAIGHT UP"
5-6 a.m. M-F

Michael Gowdey has spent the better part of the last thirty years confronting injustice and giving voice to those who have no one to speak for them. For the past twenty years Michael has been a very successful trial attorney, focusing on criminal defense and plaintiff's personal injury cases. Michael has developed a reputation as fierce advocate for his clients and for the causes in which he believes. Since he moved to Las Vegas from Southern California in 1999, he has been one of Nevada's most visible and successful trial lawyers handling some of the most high profile criminal cases in Clark County during that time. Michael's legal work on behalf of his clients has brought him recognition and many awards in both the Nevada and Southern California legal communities.

Michael has brought that same zest for argument and advocacy to KDWN, as ‘Michael Gowdey-Straight Up" the kicks off the morning talk lineup from 5-6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Michael is unabashedly liberal in his political leanings, and is always ready for debate on just about any topic.

"One thing that my legal education and my experience in the courtroom has taught me is to listen carefully to what the talker is saying, and to directly counter that, rather than simply repeat the same tired talking points over and over again", Michael says. "This is a very useful skill in talk radio, although it tends to infuriate my wife when I do it at home".

Michael began his radio career as the Thursday morning host of "Gowdeylaw" for "The Legal Hour" on KDWN. He enjoyed his time on air so much that when the 5-6 a.m. morning spot opened up, he was quick to jump at the station's offer to give him a daily political talk show. "Michael Gowdey- Straight Up" has become a morning staple for those who want to hear both sides of any issue. Michael enjoys the free format his show provides, and strives to go past just spewing the same tired clichés and to get more in-depth on the issues that affect our country and state. He tries to treat every caller with respect, and to give them every opportunity to "hold their own with someone who argues for a living".

Michael was born in 1963, and grew up in Los Angeles. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from San Diego State University in 1989, and his law degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1992. He is married and he and his wife Sopa have two wonderful boys. Michael and his family are all avid sports enthusiasts, and when he's not on the radio or practicing law, Michael can usually be found coaching his kids sports teams or engaged in some sports-related activity. He is a huge fan of great rock and roll (as you can tell by the music on his show), and attends as many concerts as his wife will allow. He also is an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and loves to ride his Harley every chance he gets.

Michael loves Las Vegas. "Where else besides Las Vegas can you get all of the excitement you have here all in one place?" Michael asks. "The restaurants, the shows, the casinos, and increasingly, the family oriented fun we have here in Vegas are unrivaled. We are very lucky to be here, and I'm very lucky to have a wonderful family, and two careers that provide me with challenges and rewards. You get out of life in large part what you put into it, and I try to put as much as I can into every day!"

Michael's clients and "Michael Gowdey-Straight Up" benefit from that philosophy every day. Tune in. You may or may not always agree with his point of view, but you'll always have something to talk about after the show.
