Boxer Jermain Taylor arrested after home shooting

MAUMELLE, Ark. (AP) — Former middleweight boxing champion Jermain Taylor has been arrested following a shooting at his suburban Little Rock home.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Lt. Carl Minden says Taylor was arrested late Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault and first-degree domestic battery after shooting his cousin and shooting at the cousin’s friend.

Minden says the cousin was hospitalized in serious condition and the other man was not injured. Their names were not released.

Minden says the two men had gone to Taylor’s home in Maumelle on Tuesday afternoon and some sort of altercation broke out before Taylor grabbed a gun and opened fire. Minden said the nature of the dispute remained under investigation.

An after-hours phone call to Taylor’s attorney was not immediately returned.

Taylor was the professional middleweight boxing champion in 2005-06.
