SPA, Belgium (AP) — Valtteri Bottas of Finland posted the fastest time in the third and final practice session of the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of qualifying later Saturday.
On a Spa track still damp from overnight rain, the Williams driver clocked a best lap of 1 minute 49.465 seconds; with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo .268 seconds behind and Formula One championship leader Nico Rosberg of Mercedes .274 back.
With rain forecast for the afternoon’s qualifying, drivers spared their tires. Bottas completed only 12 laps and Australian driver Ricciardo managing only nine.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who was more than half a second quicker than Rosberg in Friday’s second practice, was fifth fastest behind Ferrrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
Rosberg, who leads Hamilton by 11 points in the standings, is aiming for a fourth straight pole position.
