A modest gain for the stock market on Wednesday tugged the Dow Jones industrial average back into the black for the year as investors set aside concerns about Ukraine, Iraq and earnings, at least for a day. Amazon led the gains in light trading, despite a mixed batch of economic and corporate news.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 91.26 points, or 0.6 percent, to 16,651.80.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 12.97 points, or 0.7 percent, to end at 1,946.72
The Nasdaq composite rose 44.87 points, or 1 percent, to 4,434.13.
For the week:
The Dow is up 97.87 points, or 0.6 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 15.13 points, or 0.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 63.23 points, or 1.5 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 75.14 points, or 0.5 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 98.36 points, or 5.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 257.54 points, or 6.2 percent.
