Navarro, Superal advance to US Girls’ Junior final


FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Mexico’s Marijosse Navarro beat Australia’s Shelly Shin in 21 holes Friday in the U.S. Girls’ Junior to advance to the final against Princess Mary Superal of the Philippines.

The 17-year-old Navarro beat Andrea Lee of Hermosa Beach, California, 1 up in the morning quarterfinals on Forest Highlands’ Meadow Course. A three-time Women’s Mexican Amateur champion, Navarro was sixth this year for Texas A&M in the NCAA tournament.

The 17-year-old Superal beat Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar, California, in 19 holes in the quarterfinals, and topped Cindy Ha of Demarest, New Jersey, 2 up in the semifinals.
