U.S. stocks closed higher Wednesday, getting a lift from the Federal Reserve’s latest economic update. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index to another record-high close as major stock indexes notched their fourth consecutive gain.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 98.13 points, or 0.6 percent, to 16,906.62.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gained 14.99 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 1,956.98.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 25.60 points, or 0.6 percent, to 4,362.84.
For the week:
The Dow is up 130.88 points, or 0.8 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 20.82 points, or 1.1 percent.
The Nasdaq gained 52.18 points, or 1.2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 329.96 points, or about 2 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 108.62 points, or 5.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 186.25 points, or 4.5 percent.
