STRASBOURG, France (AP) — Christina McHale of the United States and Peng Shuai of China won in straight sets to move into the second round of the Strasbourg International on Tuesday.
McHale cruised past Alexandra Cadantu of Romania 6-1, 6-2, and the seventh-seeded Peng beat Australian qualifier Ashleigh Barty 7-5, 7-5.
McHale, the runner-up at the Mexican Open in March, broke three times in each set while Cadantu made eight double faults.
Spanish qualifier Silvia Soler-Espinosa also advanced by defeating Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 6-0, 7-6 (5).
Soler-Espinosa lost her four previous matches against Voegele.
