TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. is getting a good laugh at a National Enquirer report that he’s scheduled to be married at Daytona International Speedway in a $2 million affair.
The Enquirer, citing sources, reported Thursday that the “NASCAR stud” will invite nearly 2,000 guests to witness his nuptials to longtime girlfriend Amy Reimann. It said the wedding would be held by the end of the year in an indoor/outdoor bash at the same Florida track where his father was killed in a 2001 accident.
The Enquirer said the ceremony would be inside the Daytona 500 Club and followed by an outdoor reception that included “steak, lobster, shrimp, smoked brisket and ribs all washed down with champagne and top-shelf liquor.” NASCAR’s most popular driver was also recruiting Sheryl Crow, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney to perform.
Asked about the report Friday at Talladega Superspeedway, Earnhardt laughed.
“I would not force everybody to go down to Daytona for my wedding,” he said. “I probably would just have it right there in the back yard, but whatever is easiest. That was funny. I read that and it was a roller coaster of an article. Pretty good.”
Earnhardt also reiterated he and Reimann are not engaged, which made the report more humorous, and that his frugal side would likely prevent that kind of affair, anyway.
“I definitely would have a hard time writing that check,” he smiled.
