U.S. stocks ended broadly higher Monday, closing out a meager gain for the market in the first three months of the year.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 134.60 points, or 0.8 percent, to 16,457.66.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index added 14.72 points, or 0.8 percent, to 1,872.34.
The Nasdaq composite rose 43.23 points, or 1 percent, to 4,198.99.
For the year:
The Dow Jones industrial average is down 119 points, or 0.7 percent.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is up 23.98 points, or 1.3 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 22.40 points, or 0.5 percent.
