One Direction took the lead with two awards at the Kids’ Choice Awards, and more than a dozen current and former Nick teenage stars turned out to honor producer Dan Schneider.
Schneider received the first Kids’ Choice Awards lifetime achievement award Saturday night during the live telecast from Los Angeles. Schneider is the creator of several of the network’s most popular, star-producing shows, including “iCarly,” “Kenan & Kel” and “Sam & Cat,” a current Nickelodeon hit that won favorite TV show and favorite TV actress for star Ariana Grande.
“You’ve made more milk come out of kids’ noses than anyone else,” “Kenan & Kel” and “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson said in a video message.
One Direction won favorite music group and favorite song for “Story of My Life,” Selena Gomez was named favorite female singer at the fan-voted awards, and Kevin Hart took favorite funny star.
Midway through the show, host Mark Wahlberg continued to remain slime free. Only three guests, including singer-producer Pharrell Williams clad in bright yellow SpongeBob SquarePants pajamas, took a shot of the show’s trademark green goo.
Singer Aloe Blacc had the night’s top moment early in the show, leading the crowd in a sing-along of his Avicii-produced hit “Wake Me Up” before joining a children’s choir on his hit “The Man.”
Other winners included favorite movie actor Adam Sandler and favorite TV actor Ross Lynch.
